NYK box ship rescues sailor on stricken yacht off Galapagos
THE crew of a containership operated by NYK Line, the 4,918-TEU NYK Lynx, have successfully rescued one man in good health from a sailing yacht in distress 260 nautical miles off the Galapagos Islands.
The yacht had been adrift for two weeks after the main engine cut out, a statement from the Japanese shipping company said.
The ocean liner was sailing across the Pacific Ocean to Manzanillo, Mexico from Callao, Peru when it picked up a distress call from the yacht on May 11. The yachtsman was rescued early the following morning and was due to disembark at the port of Manzanillo on May 15.
